Olney Runners Juniors

Olney Runners Juniors (ORJ) offers quality coaching in a safe and supportive club environment.

Sessions are led by Run Leaders and Running Coaches who are suitably qualified and have DBS checks in place. Activities are age-appropriate, and varied to develop fitness, enjoyment of exercise, speed, endurance and agility. While previous running experience is not essential, we expect all Juniors to be willing to have fun, take part, work hard, follow instructions, be supportive of others and respectful of the community.

Sessions are every Thursday at 7pm-8pm, during the Ousedale school term only, starting and ending in the Ousedale school car park in Olney.

Joining the group

  • Sorry, but Juniors who arrive for any session without being fully registered as Club members, and signed up for that session, will be turned away.
  • In the first instance, all new enquiries should be sent to David Shakespeare at juniors@olneyrunners.org.uk. Parents/guardians must then register runner’s details and parental permissions online, and then use the Spond app (which is simple and free).
  • Between sessions, all communication about ORJ is via parents/guardians, not the young person. Parents/guardians must use the Spond app to sign up the Junior for a given session.
  • The Club might set a group-size limit on some sessions. This limit would be managed using Spond.
  • The Club is considering introducing a membership fee in the future, but at present sessions are free.

Age limits and responsibilities

  • ORJ sessions are for Year 8 up to 17 years old inclusive.
  • Age 16 to 17 inclusive – Juniors can also join any adult club session (except for track sessions where numbers are limited), BUT must be accompanied by their OR member parent/guardian who runs with them at all times. The parent/guardian should advise the session’s Run Leader in advance that their Junior is running with them.
  • Age 18 and older - runners sign up as adult members, and so can take part in any adult club session.
